In the 2025–2026 season, Thailand has fully transitioned to an electronic visa (e-Visa) system for all entry categories — tourism, work, study, and others.
There will be no more visa stickers in your passport: all data is stored in the electronic database of the Thai Immigration Bureau. The e-Visa system is already operational at all Thai embassies and consulates worldwide.
What does this mean in practice?
Nothing has changed for Russian citizens visiting Thailand for up to 60 days.
As before, a stamp for visa-free entry will be issued upon arrival. No applications, portals, or online registrations are required.
However, if you plan to stay longer than 60 days (for example, on a work, study, or long-term tourist visa), you must now apply through the official e-Visa portal.
How to apply for an e-Visa?
Visa applications are processed online only, through the official website (which includes a Russian-language interface option).
Step-by-step instructions:
- Register on the e-Visa portal.
- Complete the form and attach the required documents.
- Pay the visa fee. In Russia, payment is currently made in cash in US dollars at the Thai Embassy in Moscow. Online payment is temporarily unavailable for this region.
- Wait for processing — this usually takes up to 14 business days from the moment of payment. You keep your passport, so you can travel or prepare for your visa run without worry.
- Receive the confirmation email. Print this document and bring it with you on your trip.
If you are uncomfortable submitting documents or paying the fee yourself, you can use the services of the VFS Global visa center. They can assist in obtaining an e-Visa for travel to Thailand.
