Traveling is always easier when you know what to expect. Thailand is one of the most popular destinations for vacation, wintering, and working by the sea. And Phuket has long been an island where people return not by chance, but with a purpose. We’ve compiled ten of the most frequently asked questions before traveling in the 2025–2026 season — short, to the point, and useful.
Do you need a visa to travel to Phuket?

Thailand is a visa-free country for Russian citizens. You can stay for up to 60 days without a visa, and you can extend your stay for an additional 30 days at the immigration office.
Starting May 1, 2025, a digital arrival card was introduced — an electronic form that replaces the paper entry card. It is now completed online before arrival in the country. This has simplified border control and reduced queues upon arrival.
Does it make sense to go to the island in the summer during the low season?

Definitely yes! Summer in Phuket is a time when the island takes a break from the hustle and bustle, and nature blossoms after the rains. The beaches are empty, prices drop, and the air is filled with the freshness and scent of the tropics.
This is a great season for walks in parks, excursions, and active recreation. After the rains, the waterfalls are especially beautiful, and for adrenaline junkies, kayaking and rafting in the picturesque jungle are available.
And if you’re looking for a change of scenery, you can always fly to Bangkok or head to the northern provinces of Thailand, which have their own unique atmosphere and culture.
Is it true that you can’t bring electronic cigarettes into Thailand?

Yes, it’s true. E-cigarettes are completely prohibited in Thailand: they cannot be imported, sold, used, or even possessed.
The law is strictly enforced — violations carry fines of up to 1,000,000 baht or prison sentences of up to 10 years. So, it’s best to leave your device at home and not risk your vacation.
Is all food in Phuket spicy?

Not all of it. Yes, Thai cuisine is famous for its pepper and spice, but locals understand that not all tourists are up for such an ordeal.
Just say «No spicy please» when ordering, and they’ll prepare the dish more mildly.
And if spice isn’t your thing, you can easily find restaurants serving European cuisine in Phuket. Whether you’re craving mashed potatoes with a cutlet or a bowl of pasta, you’ll find it all here.
Are Russian bank cards accepted in Phuket?

Unfortunately, no. Bank cards issued in Russia are not accepted in Thailand. UnionPay cards sometimes work, but this is more a matter of luck than a rule – it might work today, but not tomorrow.
So, bring cash – dollars, euros, or baht. You can exchange currency in advance through our online exchange service or apply for an international Visa or Mastercard outside of Russia.
What are the most popular beaches in Phuket?

Karon is a spacious, well-maintained, and clean beach with white, sparkling sand and clear water. Shops, cafes, and cozy restaurants are nearby. Offshore, there’s a coral reef perfect for snorkeling.
Patong is the heart of the island’s nightlife. Bars, clubs, music, and lights last until the early hours. It’s the perfect spot for those who come to Phuket not only for the sea but also for the action.
Kata offers soft sand, a tranquil atmosphere, and crystal-clear water. It’s a great option for families and swimming with children.
Surin is a beach for those who appreciate balance: surrounded by hills and palm trees, and the shore offers sunbathing and sports.
Nai Harn is a quiet and picturesque beach in the south of the island. A favorite spot for surfers and those seeking a little privacy away from the bustling resorts.
What is healthcare like in Phuket and is it worth getting insurance?

Phuket’s healthcare system is excellent – the clinics are modern, the doctors are qualified, and the equipment is European-standard. However, the prices are also high, so it’s best not to take any risks without insurance.
Be sure to purchase health insurance before your trip. Make sure it covers active recreation and dengue fever – this disease is common in Southeast Asia, and while it can be successfully treated, it’s best to be protected in advance.
How safe is Phuket?

Phuket is generally calm and safe, but common sense still applies. Avoid walking on deserted streets at night, avoid displaying large sums of money, and keep your documents in the hotel safe. Drink only your own drinks and avoid engaging in questionable arguments — the police generally support the locals. The rest is a matter of caution and vigilance.
What’s the situation with motorbike rentals in Phuket?

Bikes and scooters are the island’s main form of transportation. They’re much more convenient than cars in heavy traffic, so rental shops are literally on every corner. Prices are affordable, but it’s important to choose a rental with good reviews and not go for the lowest price.
Don’t give your original documents to anyone — a copy of your passport and a deposit are sufficient. Before leaving, be sure to film the bike and take photos from all angles — this will prevent any controversial extra charges upon return.
What can you take out of Phuket?

The main rule is simple: don’t export anything that belongs to Thailand’s natural or cultural heritage.
Prohibited items include items made from parts of wild animals (such as ivory), rare plants, Buddha statues, fresh durian, shells, coral, and beach sand. The latter, by the way, is considered the property of the king.
If you really want to take home a beautiful shell or coral, buy it only in a store and keep the receipt — then you won’t have any questions at customs.
